Thirty minutes, two boxes, salty & sweet

If you shop at Kroger at all, you know that from time to time they have great deals on cereals. Well, recently they had their Chex cereal on sale for $1.99 and I was able to use this coupon to get each box for only $1.

With only thirty minutes and two boxes of cereal (plus ingredients I already had), I was able to make two of my favorite snacks at home.

The Original Chex® Party Mix (1/2 Recipe)

Ingredients
3tablespoons butter or margarine
1tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
3/4teaspoon seasoned salt
1/4teaspoon garlic powder
1/4teaspoon onion powder
1 1/2cups Corn Chex® cereal
1 1/2cups Rice Chex® cereal
1 1/2cups Wheat Chex® cereal
1/2cup mixed nuts
1/2cup bite-size pretzels
1/2cup garlic-flavor bite-size bagel chips or regular-size bagel chips, broken into 1-inch pieces
Preparation Directions
1.In large microwavable bowl, microwave butter uncovered on High about 30 seconds or until melted. Stir in seasonings. Gradually stir in remaining ingredients until evenly coated. (As you can see, I skipped the bagel chips ingredient - still great without it!)

2.Microwave uncovered on High 4 to 5 minutes, thoroughly stirring every 2 minutes. Spread on paper towels to cool, about 5 minutes.

Store in airtight container. (Friendly tip: I found this airtight container, which looks almost identically to the pricey OXO storage containers, for only $6 at walmart)

Seriously, that's it! It takes no time at all and it's super delicious and budget-friendly! :)

Next up,

Chex® Muddy Buddies® (aka: Puppy Chow)

Ingredients
9cups Rice Chex®, Corn Chex® or Chocolate Chex® cereal (or combination)
1cup semisweet chocolate chips
1/2cup peanut butter
1/4cup butter or margarine
1teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2cups powdered sugar
Preparation Directions

Into large bowl, measure cereal; set aside.

In 1-quart microwavable bowl, microwave chocolate chips, peanut butter and butter uncovered on High 1 minute; stir. Microwave about 30 seconds longer or until mixture can be stirred smooth. Stir in vanilla.

Pour mixture over cereal, stirring until evenly coated.

Pour into 2-gallon resealable food-storage plastic bag. Add powdered sugar. Seal bag; shake until well coated. Spread on waxed paper to cool. Store in airtight container in refrigerator.

And there you have it, salty and sweet treats all in the matter of 30 minutes. A worthy time-investment if you ask me!
